How to use water-based paint?

Water-based automotive paints significantly reduce the emission of organic solvents compared to traditional oil-based paints, cutting paint usage by as much as two-thirds. Additionally, they can cut the heat required for baking each vehicle during the entire coating process by more than 40%, thereby substantially lowering the energy consumption in automotive manufacturing. Moreover, water-based automotive paints boast excellent film flow properties, ensuring a smooth, ripple-free finish. They deliver vibrant, bright colors, superior hardness, outstanding scratch resistance, and exceptional weather durability. Currently, leading automotive manufacturers in Europe, the U.S., and Japan have largely adopted water-based paint systems. In China, too, a comprehensive transition from oil-based to water-based paint systems is expected to take place over the next few years. The key advantage of water-based paints lies in their use of water as the primary medium. For instance, all our interior and exterior wall coatings, metal paints, and automotive paints are now available in water-based formulations. This demonstrates that water-based paints have already found widespread application across numerous industries. Among these, water-based wood coatings stand out as the most technically challenging and technologically advanced products in the wood-coating sector. Known for their non-toxicity, eco-friendliness, virtually no odor, minimal volatile emissions, high safety (as they are non-flammable and non-explosive), and resistance to yellowing, these coatings also offer impressive coverage—making them increasingly popular in the market as environmental awareness continues to grow. When working with water-based paints, our operations typically involve spray booths and drying chambers. First, because water is more corrosive than solvents, the circulating water system in the spray booth must be constructed from stainless steel. Second, the airflow within the spray booth needs to remain optimal, with air velocity carefully controlled between 0.2 and 0.6 meters per second—or alternatively, maintaining an air volume of at least 28,000 cubic meters per hour (a standard condition easily met by most conventional paint booths). Similarly, in the drying chamber, the higher moisture content in the air can lead to corrosion, so the inner walls of the chamber must also be made from corrosion-resistant materials.
