What are the common types of paint booths used for furniture spraying?

Furniture spray booths come in many categories, with three being particularly common. The first is the water curtain spray booth, the second is the dry-type spray booth, and the third is the water swirl spray booth. The water curtain spray booth—also known as a water curtain booth, water swirl spray booth, or simply a water curtain spray room—uses a flowing curtain of water to capture and carry away paint mist. A ventilation system ensures that the mist doesn’t escape, maintaining a clean and comfortable working environment within the workshop. A typical water curtain spray booth consists of several key components: the booth body, a trough system, water curtain panels, a water circulation system, a mist-spraying system, an air-water separation unit, a debris removal system, and an exhaust ventilation system. ### How a Water Curtain Spray Booth Works: Workpieces are either conveyed into the booth via a suspended conveyor system or placed manually on a rotating workstation. Operators then use portable electrostatic spray guns or mobile cup-style spray guns to apply paint. Thanks to the advanced electrostatic spraying technology, the booth achieves excellent efficiency in capturing overspray. Any airborne paint mist is drawn toward the water curtain, where it’s cleaned by the flowing water. After initial cleaning, the mist undergoes further filtration before passing through an air-water separation device, which ensures that only clean air is released back into the atmosphere. Meanwhile, the collected paint mist, trapped by the water curtain, flows down into a storage tank. Here, centrifugal pumps circulate the mixture, allowing heavier paint particles to settle at the bottom while lighter debris floats on top. To remove these residues, coagulants are added to the tank, causing the paint sludge to clump together into loose, manageable chunks. These chunks can then be easily scooped out and disposed of, keeping the water system clean and ensuring efficient operation of the booth. --- ### Dry-Type Spray Booths In a dry-type spray booth, the pre-treatment equipment used for handling paint mist employs a dry spray cabinet or other dry filtration systems. Today, the most commonly seen solution on the market involves integrating a dry spray cabinet directly into the booth design. These cabinets, developed and manufactured by Jitu Environmental Protection, are available in standard sizes such as 3 meters, 4 meters, and 6 meters. These dry spray cabinets are primarily designed to work alongside both fixed and mobile telescopic spray booths. Their main function is to filter out paint mist generated during the spraying process. Once filtered, the contaminated air is pushed by airflow pressure into specialized exhaust systems equipped with environmental treatment devices. This final step ensures that emissions meet stringent regulatory standards before being safely released into the atmosphere. ### How a Dry-Type Spray Booth Works: This type of booth relies on physical filtration media to trap paint mist particles. During spraying, the high-speed airflow carries overspray into a labyrinthine maze filled with specially designed paint mist filter paper. As the air changes direction multiple times due to inertial separation, heavier paint particles are forced to adhere to the filter walls, while cleaner air continues moving forward without obstruction. To ensure even more thorough removal of residual paint particles, the booth incorporates additional layers of paint mist-absorbing cotton filters. Finally, the purified air passes through activated carbon units to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs), after which it is discharged into the atmosphere via the exhaust system at elevated heights, complying with emission standards. --- ### Water Swirl Spray Booths Water swirl spray booths typically feature an upward air supply combined with downward exhaust ventilation, utilizing a unique water swirl mechanism to effectively remove paint mist. These booths consist of several essential components, including the booth structure, an air supply system, a paint mist filtration system, an exhaust system, a water circulation system, and a dedicated water swirl device. ### How a Water Swirl Spray Booth Works: Based on the principle of atomizing gas-liquid mixtures, when there’s a significant difference in velocity between water and air, the water becomes finely dispersed into tiny droplets. These droplets then come into direct contact with the paint mist, causing it to coalesce and eventually settle into the water. The water itself is subsequently treated to remove any remaining contaminants before being recycled back into the system. Water swirl spray booths are widely regarded as one of the most effective large-scale spray booth solutions currently in use. They’re often integrated with comprehensive spray booths and environmental protection systems, enhancing the overall efficiency and sustainability of waste gas treatment processes.
