Water curtain cabinet for paint mist treatment

The principle of paint mist treatment in a water curtain booth: The basic process of handling paint mist in a water curtain booth is as follows: Under the suction force of the exhaust fan, air containing paint mist flows toward the water curtain plates on the inner walls of the booth. A portion of the paint mist directly contacts the water film on the plates and gets adsorbed, while another part is washed away as it passes through the water curtain flowing down from the plates. Meanwhile, any residual paint mist that escapes both the water film and the water curtain is further removed when passing through the water-washing and cleaning zones. A key feature of the water curtain booth is its ability to direct excess paint particles generated during spraying directly into the water tank or onto the water curtain surface. Additionally, odors produced during painting and any small amounts of unadsorbed paint particles are filtered through multiple layers of the water curtain before being expelled outside the spray booth via the exhaust fan, effectively purifying the painting environment and safeguarding workers' health. Note that the water inside the booth needs to be replaced regularly. The wastewater from the water curtain booth originates from paint particles and organic solvents suspended in the air, which have been transferred into the water, forming paint-contaminated wastewater. This wastewater typically contains high concentrations of paint particles, with pollutant levels varying depending on the type of paint, solvent, and additives used. When starting up the system, ensure that the fan is rotating in the correct direction—clockwise—to efficiently expel contaminated air from the environmentally friendly water curtain booth (painting station) back into the workshop. If the fan is spinning counterclockwise, simply swap the positions of any two of the three power wires connected to the motor. Over time, the fan blades may accumulate paint buildup, so regular maintenance is essential. Be careful not to deform the blades during cleaning, as this could lead to uneven rotation and significantly shorten the fan's lifespan. Additionally, avoid allowing the water level in the booth to rise too high, as this can easily cause the pump to become clogged. Never allow the pump to run dry; if you notice it failing to draw water, immediately disconnect the power supply. To summarize, the basic process of paint mist treatment in a water curtain booth includes: 1. Driven by the suction force of the exhaust fan, air containing paint mist moves toward the water curtain plates on the booth’s inner walls. Some of the mist comes into direct contact with the water film on the plates and gets adsorbed, while other particles are washed away as they pass through the water curtain flowing down from the plates. Meanwhile, any remaining paint mist that evades both the water film and the water curtain is thoroughly cleaned out as it travels through the water-washing and cleaning zones. 2. It’s important to note that the current paint mist treatment systems installed in water curtain booths can only handle the resin components within the mist. Unfortunately, solvent vapors—which are notoriously difficult to dissolve in water—are not effectively captured and thus still end up being released into the atmosphere, contributing to pollution. Therefore, it’s necessary to install additional dedicated exhaust gas treatment equipment specifically designed to manage and neutralize these escaping solvent vapors. 3. A water curtain booth is a device that uses water to trap paint mist. Typically, it consists of an exhaust system, a water supply mechanism, a paint-mist-capturing water curtain and spray system, an air-water separation unit, and ductwork. The booth’s overall performance largely depends on the coordinated operation of the water pump and exhaust fan, as well as the optimal mixing and contact between the paint mist and water. Consequently, factors such as water flow adjustments, proper water volume selection, and efficient air-to-water mixing play critical roles in determining the booth’s effectiveness in capturing paint mist. 4. Once the spray booth fan is activated, the air containing paint mist enters the cleaning chamber at high speed—typically 20–30 m/s—through a narrow gap under pressure. Inside the chamber, the paint mist and water are drawn into a swirling motion by the action of the vortex plate. Due to centrifugal forces, heavier paint particles are collected by the water film on the vortex plate, while lighter particles collide repeatedly with water droplets throughout the chamber, coalescing into larger droplets mixed with paint. These paint-laden water droplets eventually fall into the chamber’s collection tank, where they settle and are periodically removed. Finally, the purified air—now free of paint and water droplets—is exhausted outdoors via the fan.
