The working principle of fuel vehicle paint booths
Automotive paint booths are generally used for spraying and baking car paints; therefore, the precise term for such a facility should be "automotive spray and bake booth." Next, I’ll introduce you separately to the working principles of automotive painting operations and baking processes. 1. **Working Principle of Spray Painting Operations** During spray painting, fresh air is drawn in through the intake vents of the ventilation system, passes through primary filters, and is then delivered by a blower to an independent static pressure chamber located at the ceiling of the booth. After being further purified by high-efficiency sub-filters installed at the top, the air is evenly distributed throughout the booth—flowing downward in a laminar manner. At this stage, the airborne particle concentration is kept below 15 mg/m³, with the largest particles measuring less than 4 μm in diameter. The airflow velocity within the spray operation area remains uniform at approximately 0.3–0.4 m/s, ensuring that overspray mist is effectively contained without spilling out. This design significantly enhances workers' hygiene conditions during operation. Meanwhile, excess paint mist is efficiently extracted via positive-pressure exhaust vents at the bottom of the booth. It flows horizontally through a grid system before entering the dedicated paint mist filtration unit. Here, most of the paint particles and larger droplets are captured by gravity, while a small fraction undergoes thorough filtration as they pass through the bottom filter layer. This process effectively prevents paint particles from negatively impacting the activated carbon layer. Finally, organic solvents in the exhaust gases are adsorbed by an active carbon adsorption device positioned upstream of the exhaust fan’s intake port. As a result, the concentration of harmful gases inside the spray and bake booth remains well below the national regulatory limits. Under the suction force of the exhaust fan, the air flow moves sequentially through the exhaust gas filtration system and eventually exits through the designated exhaust duct, releasing only emissions that meet stringent environmental discharge standards. When conducting spray painting, ensure that both the interior and exterior areas within 1 meter of the booth remain clean and free of flammable or explosive materials. Additionally, vehicles must already be prepared for painting. Before starting the actual spraying process, the ventilation system should run continuously for about 5–6 minutes. Operators must wear clean work attire and protective gear, including respirators. During spraying, the spray gun should never exceed the height of the breathing zone. 2. **Working Principle of Bake Painting Operations** In the bake painting process, external fresh air is first filtered through a primary filter screen and then routed into a heat exchanger, where it exchanges heat with energy generated by a heating unit. The heated air is subsequently delivered to the top of the spray and bake booth, passing through a secondary filter for final purification before being introduced into the booth. The hot air circulates downward, exiting from the bottom of the booth. Thanks to the internal recirculation mechanism controlled by dampers, only a minimal amount of fresh air is drawn in, while the majority of the heated air is reused repeatedly, continuously circulating back into the booth. This ensures a steady rise in temperature throughout the space. Once the preset temperature is reached, the burner automatically shuts off. When the temperature drops below the set point by 4–5°C, the system triggers the burner and ventilation fan to restart, maintaining a consistent temperature inside the booth. Finally, when the predetermined baking time is completed, the spray and bake booth automatically turns off, signaling the end of the process. After spray painting, allow the vehicle to sit undisturbed for 15–20 minutes to enable proper leveling of the paint film. Only after this waiting period should the baking process begin, helping to prevent issues like sagging or orange-peel texture. Before initiating the bake painting procedure, make sure to turn off the power switch and properly set the desired temperature and duration. Failure to do so may lead to damage of the humidity controller and timer components.
