What is a painting production line?

The seven major components of a painting production line include: pretreatment equipment, powder coating system, paint spraying equipment, baking oven, heating system, electrical control system, and suspended conveyor chain. Pretreatment Equipment The spray-type multi-station pretreatment unit is a commonly used device in surface treatment. Its principle involves using mechanical agitation to accelerate chemical reactions, thereby completing processes such as degreasing, phosphating, and water rinsing. A typical pretreatment process for steel parts includes: pre-degreasing, degreasing, water rinsing, water rinsing, surface conditioning, phosphating, water rinsing, water rinsing, and finally, pure water rinsing. Alternatively, shot blasting machines can also be employed for pretreatment, especially suitable for steel parts with simple structures, severe rust, or minimal oil contamination—and they produce zero water pollution. Powder Coating System In powder coating applications, the small cyclone + filter cartridge recovery unit stands out as an advanced and fast-color-changing powder recovery system. For critical components of the powder coating system, it’s recommended to use imported products, while other parts like the powder coating booth and electric-mechanical lift systems can be fully localized. Paint Spraying Equipment Equipment such as oil-spray booths and water curtain spray booths are widely used in surface coating processes for bicycles, automotive leaf springs, and large loaders. Baking Oven The baking oven is a crucial piece of equipment in any painting production line, and its temperature uniformity directly impacts the quality of the final coating. Ovens can be heated via radiation, hot air circulation, or a combination of both—radiation plus hot air circulation. Depending on production requirements, ovens can be designed as single-chamber or through-type units, with either straight-through or bridge-style configurations. Among these, hot air circulation ovens offer excellent insulation, ensure even internal temperatures, and minimize heat loss. Testing has shown that the temperature difference within the oven remains below ±3°C, meeting the performance standards of similar products from leading international manufacturers. Heating System Hot air circulation is currently the most widely adopted heating method. It leverages convection principles to efficiently heat the oven, facilitating both drying and curing of the coated materials. The heat source can be selected based on specific user needs, including electricity, steam, gas, or fuel oil. Additionally, the placement of the heat source—whether at the top, bottom, or side—can be customized according to the oven’s design. Electrical Control System The electrical control systems for painting and painting production lines can be configured in either centralized or individual-unit control modes. Centralized control typically utilizes a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to manage the entire production line, enabling automated operation of each process step, data collection, real-time monitoring, and alarm notifications. On the other hand, individual-unit control is the most common approach in painting production lines, where each process is managed independently. Electrical control boxes are installed near the respective equipment, offering cost-effectiveness, intuitive operation, and easy maintenance. Suspended Conveyor Chain The suspended conveyor system serves as the backbone of industrial assembly lines and painting operations. Accumulating-type suspended conveyors are particularly suited for warehouse shelving systems spanning 10–14 meters, as well as specialized coating lines for irregular-shaped streetlight alloy steel tubes. Workpieces are securely hung on dedicated fixtures capable of supporting loads up to 500–600 kg. The conveyor’s movement through switches is smooth and precise, with switch operations precisely controlled by electrical signals according to operational commands. This ensures seamless automatic transfer of workpieces across all processing stations, allowing for efficient cooling accumulation in designated areas. Moreover, the system incorporates fixture recognition and traction-based emergency stop mechanisms in critical cooling zones.
