What aspects should be noted during the use of a paint booth?

Some vehicles develop minor blemishes on their painted surfaces after being sprayed and baked in the paint booth. Upon closer inspection, these imperfections are often found to be tiny dust particles trapped and adhered to the paint due to the coating process. When this occurs, it indicates that the air inside the paint booth contains a significant amount of airborne dust. **Precautions for Using an Automotive Paint Booth:** (1) Air entering the paint booth is the primary source of contamination. Therefore, when the booth is not in use, its doors must remain tightly closed—leaving them open for extended periods is strictly prohibited. In many repair shops, putty sanding is frequently performed in areas very close to the paint booth. During this process, large amounts of dust are generated, and these fine particles can easily be carried into the booth by air currents. While using dust-free dry-sanding techniques can help mitigate this issue, manual sanding methods tend to create far more severe contamination. To minimize pollution, putty-sanding activities should ideally take place in areas distant from the paint booth. (2) When the paint booth is operational, ventilation fans draw external air through filter cotton installed on the booth’s ceiling, directing it downward. Simultaneously, air is extracted from the floor, creating a downward airflow throughout the booth. This design ensures that even if a small amount of dust is present, it won’t become airborne. Additionally, the filter cotton on the booth’s ceiling effectively traps most of the dust, helping maintain clean air quality inside the booth. For optimal performance, it’s essential to regularly replace both the ceiling filters and the absorbent mats placed on the booth floor. (3) Vehicles awaiting paint application typically represent the largest source of contamination within the booth. Areas such as wheels, bumpers, and engine compartments tend to accumulate substantial amounts of dirt and debris. Thoroughly cleaning the vehicle beforehand can significantly reduce the impact of these contaminants on the painting process. Thus, meticulous preparation—including proper vehicle washing—is absolutely critical for achieving high-quality results. (4) The work attire worn by painters also poses a potential contamination risk. In many repair shops, the same person often handles both putty sanding and paint spraying. However, it’s crucial to avoid wearing the same set of work clothes during both tasks. Instead, dedicated, fiber-free garments should be used exclusively for painting operations. Inside the booth, workers must wear specialized, lint-free clothing along with rubber gloves, protective face shields, and respirators at all times while applying each coat of paint. Individuals without appropriate protective gear are strictly forbidden from entering the booth—they may only observe the painting process through the viewing window—to prevent any risk of contaminating the freshly applied paint. (5) Aside from essential tasks like covering the vehicle and performing actual spray applications—which must be conducted within the booth—other preparatory steps and paint-mixing activities should always occur outside the booth. Unfortunately, some repair shops still make the serious mistake of cleaning vehicles or sanding putty directly inside the paint booth, blatantly violating established painting and repair protocols. (6) Spray guns and other painting equipment must be kept impeccably clean. After each painting session, spray guns should be promptly cleaned to prevent paint from drying inside. Dried paint tends to clump together, forming solid deposits that can scatter during spraying, ultimately leading to defects on the painted surface. (7) At the conclusion of every painting job, the floor and walls of the booth should be meticulously swept and wiped down. All coverings and materials used during the vehicle-covering process must also be removed and disposed of properly. Whenever possible, single-use coverings should be employed to shield the vehicle, and cotton-based covers or wheel covers should be avoided, as they tend to attract and trap dust more readily. (8) Never store spare parts, paint cans, or any other miscellaneous items inside the paint booth, as these can accumulate dirt and eventually contaminate the vehicle being prepared for painting. Similarly, tools like spray guns, paper, tape, putty, vehicle covers, and work uniforms should never be left exposed to the open environment. Instead, they should be stored securely in enclosed, well-ventilated spaces to maintain cleanliness and prevent contamination. In summary, maintaining a pristine environment within the paint booth and adhering to strict operational guidelines are indispensable for ensuring top-notch paintwork quality. **About Guangzhou Qiangxin Spray Booth Machinery & Electrical Co., Ltd.:** We specialize in manufacturing a wide range of paint booths, spray-and-bake systems, and related accessories.
