Teaching you how to tell the difference between baked paint and spray paint
I wonder if everyone has a basic understanding of baking varnish. For furniture manufacturing, baking varnish is one of the commonly used techniques and processes. So, what exactly is baking varnish? From a technical perspective, it involves applying three coats of primer and four coats of topcoat onto the substrate. After each coat is applied, the piece is carefully placed into a dust-free, temperature-controlled oven for curing. Now, what about spray painting? Spray painting is a more traditional technique, often involving manual labor. It’s carried out using machinery combined with skilled human intervention to treat the wood panels. However, since the paint used in this process may contain formaldehyde, prolonged exposure could potentially harm your health. As a result, spray painting isn’t as widely favored by consumers. From a technical standpoint, spray painting begins with applying putty to the substrate, followed by spraying the paint directly onto the surface. Once sprayed, the painted surface is left to air-dry naturally. In terms of the paint film, baking varnish produces a smooth, even coating with sharp, well-defined edges and consistent color—resulting in a vibrant, full-bodied finish. In contrast, spray-painted surfaces tend to have slightly rough edges, with colors that appear paler than the original wood tone. Additionally, the paint film from spray painting often lacks uniformity and may feel uneven or less saturated. When it comes to texture, baking varnish creates a sleek, flawless surface without any visible grain patterns or imperfections like orange peel. On the other hand, spray-painted surfaces retain some texture, appearing less smooth and sometimes exhibiting an orange-peel effect. Externally, baking varnished doors offer a perfectly flat and polished surface, while spray-painted doors may show visible particles, leaving them feeling uneven and giving a slightly uncomfortable touch. In terms of durability, when subjected to hard impacts, baking varnish maintains its integrity without chipping or peeling, whereas spray-painted surfaces are more prone to cracking and severe flaking, even losing chunks of the paint altogether. At our company, we specialize in manufacturing high-quality spray and bake booths designed for automotive, industrial, and other applications. Our booths feature sturdy, long-lasting structures made from specially engineered letter-embedded, thermoplastic-coated wall panels that provide excellent sealing and insulation properties. Each booth is equipped with convenient side access doors made from aluminum alloy frames, complete with observation windows in the center for easy monitoring of the interior environment. To ensure optimal spray painting results, we utilize low-noise, high-volume fans that guarantee precise airflow control. Additionally, our premium stainless steel heat exchangers deliver exceptional efficiency and longevity. During the painting process, outside air first passes through a primary filtration system before being drawn upward by powerful fans toward the ceiling. From there, it undergoes a second round of purification via a specialized ceiling filter before entering the booth. Inside the booth, the air flows downward at a controlled speed of 0.2 to 0.3 meters per second, preventing paint mist particles from lingering in the air. Instead, these particles are efficiently expelled through strategically placed exhaust vents located at the bottom of the booth. This continuous circulation ensures that the air inside remains remarkably clean—achieving a purity level exceeding 98%—while maintaining a slight positive pressure within the booth. For the baking process, simply adjust the air damper to the "bake" position, allowing hot air to circulate freely. The temperature inside the booth will quickly rise to the pre-set drying range (typically between 50°C and 60°C). Fresh air is initially filtered before being directed into the upper chamber of the booth, where it exchanges heat with the heated air returning from the lower section. After undergoing a second stage of filtration, the warm air is circulated back into the booth via the internal damper system. While some fresh air is introduced, the majority of the heated air is continuously recycled, ensuring efficient use of energy and steady temperature maintenance throughout the process. Once the preset baking time is reached, the system automatically shuts down, marking the completion of the baking cycle. Our company is dedicated to producing cutting-edge environmental coating equipment, including professional-grade spray and bake booths, industrial spray and bake systems, sanding rooms, and a wide range of other eco-friendly painting solutions.
