Why is the Environmental Protection Agency phasing out UV photocatalytic exhaust gas treatment equipment?


First, let’s understand the principle behind UV photocatalytic equipment: It primarily works by absorbing energy from photons or other particles, which breaks chemical bonds and generates free-state atoms. These atoms then undergo a series of oxidation-reduction reactions, ultimately transforming complex pollutants into simpler substances like carbon dioxide and water. UV photocatalytic technology was widely adopted for exhaust gas purification between 2016 and 2018. Based on our company’s more than ten years of experience in waste gas treatment, this technology proves highly effective in purifying exhaust gases, delivering outstanding results during implementation. However, starting from 2019, some environmental protection agencies have begun to question its reliability. This skepticism partly stems from the fact that different industries produce varying types of exhaust gases—some of which simply cannot be effectively treated using this technology. More critically, certain unscrupulous manufacturers have tampered with equipment configurations, exaggerated the technology’s capabilities, and even produced substandard products. As a result, the overall efficiency of exhaust gas purification has failed to meet regulatory emission standards, leading to the gradual loss of recognition for this technology among environmental authorities.
